The Iloilo City government is ready to give Covid-19 booster shots to medical frontliners if infections continue to rise.
According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, the city can give booster shots to medical frontliners and their families once the national Inter-Agency Task Force Against Covid-19 (NIATF) allows it.
“While cases are rising, we are ready to give booster shots to the medical frontliners and their families once the IATF allows it. We are also ready to vaccinate minor children we have pre-registered once we are allowed by the IATF. We need to give everyone protection,” Treñas said in a statement on Thursday.
The IATF has yet to decide on the proposal to give medical frontliners booster shots.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque recently clarified that the Vaccine Expert Panel (VEP) made the recommendation to provide Covid-19 booster shots to medical frontliners.
As of 12 pm Thursday, the city reported 92 new cases, including 4 reinfection, and 4 deaths.
Meanwhile, the Iloilo City government continued its Covid-19 vaccination roll-out to eligible population and even non-residents.
Treñas has reported that the city government has achieved 35.56% of its target population to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
“In tough times like this, we must keep ourselves protected to avoid getting severe symptoms from COVID-19. Our vaccination program is ongoing to ensure the safety of the Ilonggos,” he said in his previous statement. (ERS)
