With the Ilonggo basketball community buzzing about the Iloilo United Royals’ first-ever home game, the team is trying to maintain its focus and locked-in on grabbing the victory against the hottest team in the league, the Pasay Voyagers.

Pasay is currently on a six-game winning streak, the longest streak in the MPBL right now. Iloilo will look to feed off of the home crowd’s energy as they attempt to halt Pasay’s streak in front of their fans.

“Hindi naming pwedeng itapon ang bola many times against Pasay. We should also execute our gameplans and schemes well, and most importantly, we should play and work as a team from start to finish,” coach Gonzales told Daily Guardian in an interview.

Pasay’s effort to dive for loose balls and compete for every rebound was key to their six-game winning streak. Coach Gonzales wants his team to match that energy if they want to come out on top.

“We are ready, and we are always flexible against anybody. Balanced kasi yung team namin eh. Yung Reverente, Moradas, Jamon, Iñigo, tsaka Chan nung Pasay, they work like a horse, magagaling yon, but we’re ready.”

We’ll know soon enough.

The game is today at the University of San Agustin Gym, 8:30 p.m.
