Covid-19 infections in Iloilo City continued to increase in the first week of February after more cases were traced to regional government agencies.
Based on the data from City Health Office (CHO), Covid-19 cases recorded at the Philippine Coast Guard – Western Visayas (PCG 6) rose to 16 after two more were logged on February 3, 2021.
The two additional cases include a 38-year-old male from Sto. Domingo, Arevalo and a 31-year-old male at PCG Ship at Muelle Loney, City Proper.
Initially, 10 personnel from PCG contracted Covid-19 after the agency held a regional event and gathering over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Immigration also registered eight Covid-19 cases. Out of the eight cases, six are from Iloilo City and two are from Iloilo province.
The Iloilo City Covid-19 Team noted that the new cases in the city were traced to regional government agencies.
“We have controlled the transmission sa aton mga kabarangayan and karon sa mga government agencies naman diri sa syudad.” Conlu noted.
Authorities noted that the transmissions in government agencies were mainly caused by mass gatherings and the practice of eating inside offices where employees lower their guards against the virus.
Meanwhile, the daily Covid-19 average rate in Iloilo City increased by 300% in February compared to January.
From February 1 to 3, the city logged 36 cases (average daily increase of 12) compared to 11 cases (4 cases per day) on January 1 to 3.
On Wednesday, Iloilo City recorded 15 local cases including two positive locally stranded individual (LSIs), two authorized personnel outside residence (APOR) and one returning Overseas Filipino Worker (ROF). (ERS)
