BACOLOD City – Philippine Coast Guard-Negros Chief Jansen Benjamin warned residents that the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) is still in place to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

This after three persons were intercepted in Valladolid town on board a motor banca Thursday.

Benjamin said all forms of sea travel, except for essential operations, were prohibited when the ECQ was implemented starting March 30, 2020.

Apprehended were Vicente Yangyang, his son Virgilio and the latter’s live-in partner Juebay Tilo.

Benjamin said that at around 10:30 am of April 23, 2020, the Coast Guard substation in Pulupandan received a call from Punong Barangays William Kratzer of Poblacion, Valladolid in Negros Occidental informing them that a motor banca with three person onboard were spotted in their shoreline.

Authorities learned that the Yangyangs shuttled between Hinigaran and Valladolid using the boat due to lack of land transportation.

Benjamin said the couple were made to render community work while the elder Yangyang was ordered to go back to Hinigaran on board the motor banca.
