BACOLOD City – A college student died while his girlfriend was wounded after their motorcycle collided with a sedan at Purok Guillena, Barangay Taloc, Bago City, Negros Occidental last Monday.

The fatality was identified as Art Vergil Murillo, 20, of Barangay Taloc.

Wounded was Mel Rose Salgado, 24, of Pontevedra town.

Police Staff Sergeant Ronald Javier, traffic investigator of Bago City Police Station, said the motorcycle driven by Murillo was believed to be speeding when it collided with a sedan that was executing a U-turn.

“Siguro dasig ang dalagan ka motor, na alang-alang siya pag U-turn ka sedan,” he said.

The couple suffered fractures and were taken to a hospital. But Murillo, who was referred to a private hospital here, expired later.

Javier said the sedan driver, who is a 49-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW), was released from police custody last Tuesday after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention.

Javier said the families of the victims and the sedan driver were scheduled to meet today, Dec. 22.
