Common-law wife is suspect in Calinog hacking

Police did not have to look any further to find the suspect who allegedly killed a 38-year-old man from Calinog, Iloilo.

Alias Lovely allegedly owned up to killing his common-law husband, Jose Dalanon, whose body was found at 7 a.m. on Nov. 13 at their home in the hinterland village of Guinbunyogan.

Major Myles Dieron, Calinog police chief, said that Lovely has been speaking incoherently when asked about her partner’s death.

Later that day, police returned to the village and invited her and her father for questioning.

“She admitted to having hacked her husband following a fight. She also mentioned where she hid the bolo,” Dieron said.

But other than that, “we could no longer understand what she was saying.”

Dieron said Lovely could be suffering from a nervous breakdown.

“It was a good thing that she did not physically harm her child,” he said.

The couple’s four-year-old son said he woke and saw his father’s body.

Dieron said they will let the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) do an assessment on whether to recommend Lovely to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

In the meantime, the woman is detained at the lock-up cell of Calinog Municipal Police Station.
