BACOLOD City – Mayor Salvador Escalante of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Wednesday said the city government is eyeing the construction of a Common-Use Facility for dried fish vendors and small agricultural businesses to boost these industries.
Escalante revealed the plan during the inauguration of the P6.5-million Cadiz City Pavilion at the Panaad Park and Stadium, Wednesday morning.
Escalante said that the Common-Use Facility is where dried fish vendors and agricultural products sellers can package their goods to avoid exposing them to dust and other unsanitary elements.
The facility will also improve packaging for these products which Cadiz City is known for.
Dried fish, which is called “uga” in dialect, is synonymous with Cadiz City, according to Escalante.
These products are presently displayed and on sale at the Cadiz City Pavilion in the Panaad Park and Stadium as part of the ongoing MassKara sa Panaad activity. It is one of the innovations in this year’s MassKara celebration.
Utilized in this event is the pavilion rebuilt by the city government as well as a liaison office of the mayor where athletes of the city can stay if they have games or competitions here.
Escalante said that the P100,000 subsidy of the provincial government was also utilized in the rebuilding of the pavilion
The provincial government extended P100,000 each to LGUs which participated in the MassKara sa Panaad to spruce up their respective pavilions.
Escalante said that he is for the holding of a weekend market for the sale Cadiz products and that of other LGUs of the province at the Panaad Park and Stadium.
For two days since the start of the MassKara sa Panaad Festival, dried fish sales amounted to P100,000.
