Concrete roads to boost socio-economic growth of Sagay City, Negros Occidental

Two road concreting projects are delivered by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to boost the socio-economic growth in Sagay City in Negros Occidental.

Implemented by DPWH, Negros Occidental 1st District Engineering Office, these road projects are constructed in barangays of Paraiso and Poblacion 1 in Sagay City, leading to farms, schools, and economic zones.

OIC-District Engineer Dene B. Baldonado Jr. said these roads will facilitate economic activities in Sagay City, benefiting the people in the community.

“These roads links producers and consumers, students and schools, employees and workplaces, thus, the improved road condition facilitates faster mobility of people, goods and services, that will eventually help alleviate the city’s socio-economic growth,” OIC-DE Dene B. Baldonado said.

“These road projects will increase local trade and production; provide cost-efficient transportation of products from farms to the market; facilitate convenient and safer access from homes to schools, workplaces and other government and private establishments; and offers easier access for the delivery of basic government programs and services to the people,” Baldonado added.

Baldonado further said that aside from faster mobility of people, the concrete road in Barangay Paraiso will help the city in its proper waste management program, and minimize post-harvest losses. This local road gives access to the sanitary landfill, thus paving this road section will facilitate convenient and efficient waste disposal, benefiting not only the people but also the environment.

“This road also leads to various sugarcane plantations in the city, hence, paving of this road will accommodate big trucks from farms to milling stations at a lesser hauling cost,” Baldonado said.

The ₱4.95-million project in Barangay Paraiso includes upgrading of 270-lineal meter earth road to 2-lane, 5-meter wide concrete road from Hacienda Ricky to ‘Ecozone’ with slope protection structures.

On the other hand, the construction of road in Barangay Poblacion 1 leads to Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology, benefiting teachers, students and people in the community. The ₱4.5-million project involves construction of 600-lineal meter road, including provision of 73-lineal meter long, 610-millimeter wide concrete pipe culvert as its drainage system.

These road projects are examples of concrete and strong partnership of the Department and the Local Government Unit in providing quality infrastructure facilities and services that will help improve the quality of life of the people. (DPWH-6)
