BACOLOD City – A personnel of Police Station 2 here was criminally charged for evasion through negligence after a detainee escaped from jail Friday last week.
But Police Staff Sergeant Luduvico Dela Raya, duty jailer of the said police station, posted an P18,500 bail after he was charged before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
Police Major Sherlock Gabana, station commander, said that Dela Raya then returned to work pending administrative sanctions.
Dela Raya was charged after James Brisuela, 36, of Barangay 3 here, who was previously arrested for an illegal drug offense on May 4, escaped from jail.
Brisuela allegedly used a piece of wood wrapped with cloth to cut a portion of the jail’s steel bar to avoid creating noise.
He (Brisuela) was the only one who escaped among the 19 other detainees at the jail, Gabana said.
Gabana said that Dela Raya failed to notice Brisuela getting out of the jail at that time.
The following day, Brisuela surrendered to Police Colonel Henry Biñas, director of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), through the help of a local radio station here.
Brisuela, upon talking to Biñas, requested to be placed in the custody of Police Station 1 for fear of fellow detainees at Police Station 2.
He said he regretted bolting out of jail and asked for forgiveness for what happened.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, public information officer of BCPO, said that Dela Raya and other duty personnel, including Gabana, will be investigated.
