BACOLOD City – A policeman suffered minor injuries after he chased two men on a motorcycle, who evaded a checkpoint at Sitio Dao, Barangay Lemery, Calatrava, Negros Occidental last Saturday.

Wounded was Patrolman Rofer Villanueva.

Police Captain Jesus Alba, deputy chief of Calatrava Municipal Police Station, said the two motorcycle riders ignored the police manning a checkpoint and sped away, prompting four officers to chase the suspects.

Alba said the suspects allegedly fired shots during the chase, which lasted for about 20 minutes.

Villanueva met an accident when he lost control of his motorcycle since the road is under repair, according to Alba.

The suspects’ motorcycle was recovered about eight kilometers away from the checkpoint area, after its chain got detached, Alba said.

Police believed that the suspects might had contraband, weapons, or do not have a license, thus they did not stop at the checkpoint.

Alba said that Villanueva was already discharged from the hospital.

He said they have identified one of the two suspects, but refused to provide a name, pending the investigation and identification of his companion.
