Cop injured in gun attack

BACOLOD City – A policeman was injured after he was shot by an unidentified assailant at Barangay Poblacion, San Enrique, Negros Occidental yesterday.

The victim is Police Staff Sergeant Adan Bello, 42, of La Carlota City. He is assigned at Valladolid Municipal Police Station.

Police Captain Renante Salgado, town police chief, said Bello was inside a remittance firm when the masked suspect alighted from a motorcycle and shot him.

Bello suffered three gunshot wounds and was taken to Valladolid District Hospital.

He was then transferred to a hospital here where he will undergo a surgery.

Police recovered from the scene a live cartridge, deformed slug, and four empty shells of .45 caliber ammunition, P100 cash, a .9mm Glock 17 pistol with magazine loaded with 14 live ammunition.

Salgado said the suspect may have tailed Bello to the remittance firm.

He said that they are exploring all possible angles behind the attack, especially the victim’s work.

“The case is still under investigation and we have no lead yet on the identity of the perpetrator,” he added.
