BACOLOD City – A police officer was relieved from his post yesterday following a jailbreak at Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station in Negros Occidental last Oct 14, 2020.
Lieutenant Wilma Silva, deputy public information officer of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), said the cop assigned as jailer of the said police station was transferred to the provincial police headquarters.
Silva, however, refused to name the policeman while the latter is being investigated for the incident.
Silva said the town policemen raised the reward money from P20,000 to P35,000 to anyone who could provide information on the whereabouts of 23-year-old jailbird Reco Layan.
Layan, who was arrested in July this year for murder, escaped from the said police station on Oct 14 after he was released from jail when he complained that he was feeling ill.
The jailer and cops on duty that day were at the vicinity but Layan was not handcuffed and he was able to look for an opportunity to escape by riding a motorcycle parked outside the gate.
