BACOLOD City – A police non-commissioned officer in Negros Occidental was disarmed and placed under restricted custody after he recently tested positive for use of illegal drugs.
Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, deputy public information officer of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here, said five policemen underwent a random preliminary drug test on Dec 9, 2020, and one of them tested positive for drug use when the confirmatory results were released four days later.
Donasco said the police officer, with a rank of Corporal, was given 15 days to challenge the results by having another test in other government agencies using the same specimen.
Donacso said 25 percent of the Nocppo personnel already underwent drug test since Nov 25 upon the assumption of Brigadier General Rolando Miranda as director of Police Regional Office (PRO)-6.
She said the random drug testing is ongoing, considering that the region has 8,500 test kits.
In an interview with GMA Bacolod, Miranda said he has alerted the Internal Affairs Service (IAS) for the investigation and filing of case against the said cop.
“Maraming darating na ganyan, ginagawa natin ito para masiguardo na malinis ang hanay,” Miranda said, during his visit in Bacolod City yesterday. “We are sincere in our campaign to clean our ranks,” he added.
