BACOLOD CITY  A domestic dispute turned deadly Tuesday when a couple fatally stabbed each other during an argument in Barangay Tabugon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

The victims were identified as “Marilie,” 26, a housemaid, and her common-law husband, “Fernan,” 30, a laborer.

Police Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., chief of the Kabankalan City Police Station, said the altercation began when Marilie expressed her intent to keep working in Bacolod to help fund home repairs.

Fernan reportedly opposed the idea, which led to a heated confrontation that ended in violence.

The incident occurred in front of Marilie’s six-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

Indiape said the child ran to a nearby grandmother for help, but both Marilie and Fernan were already critically injured and were declared dead at a hospital.

Investigators recovered several bladed weapons at the scene and suspect a sickle may have been used.

Indiape said the couple had no prior history of physical violence, and it remains unclear if jealousy was a factor.

The child is now in the care of her grandmother.
