A couple was killed after a car collided with their motorcycle evening of Nov 24, 2020 in Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.
Lysander Leslie Lapidez, 50, and his live-in partner Lea Pormacion, 31, of Barangay Alalasan, Lapuz, Iloilo City, succumbed to injuries on different parts of their body.
They were declared dead on arrival at the Gov. Raul C. Tupas Sr. District Hospital.
Police Captain Ken Albert Lepsia, Barotac Viejo police chief, said the driver and the passenger of the Kia sedan (license plate MDA-491) suffered minor injuries.
Lepsia said the car driver Felix John Penticase, 27, of Barangay Mostro, Anilao, Iloilo, was eventually placed under arrest.
Penticase’s 60-year-old passenger Eugenio Banibani, also of Mostro village, was also treated at the town hospital for his wounds.
Lapidez and Pormacion were navigating a dimly-lit portion of Barangay Natividad when the sedan suddenly encroached their lane and collided head-on with the victims’ Yamaha NMax 2DPF.
Both victims were thrown off their motorcycle.
The motorcycle caught fire while the sedan overshot the road and plowed into a banana plant before ramming into a bamboo fence and falling into a ditch.
Lepsia said the road was straight and clear, so there was no reason for Penticase not to see the approaching motorcycle.
But investigators claimed that Penticase and Banibani were reeking with liquor when the incident happened.
Penticase is now detained.
To recall, two other accidents involving motorcycles also happened in other parts of Iloilo province on Tuesday.
Ariel Valladolid, a resident of Barangay Purog, Dueñas, Iloilo, instantly died after his motorcycle collided with a delivery truck around 7 am in Cabatuan, Iloilo.
An hour later, another motorcycle rider figured in another road mishap at Barangay Bolong Oeste, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.
Luckily, Regie Gole, 30, of Poblacion Ilaya, Tapaz, Capiz, only suffered leg injuries.
