Covid-19 afflicts Capiz guv again

ROXAS CITY, Capiz— For the second time around, Capiz Governor Esteban Evan Nonoy Contreras was infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Contreras immediately isolated himself after receiving the results of his RT-PCR test Tuesday afternoon and asked those whom he had contacted to undergo quarantine and monitor themselves.

He described himself as asymptomatic.

The governor said that he had close contact on Thursday last week with a worker of the Kabalaka Center at the Capiz provincial Capitol who was also infected.

Contreras assured Capiceños that he will continue his service to the public especially during this time of pandemic. He appealed to the public to strictly follow the health protocol to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.

Meanwhile, Provincial Administrator Dr. Edwin Chinel Monares confirmed that the Governor’s Mansion in Brgy. Lanot will be placed under lockdown.

Monares said the governor is in a better situation compared to the first time he was infected last year.

The governor was scheduled to undergo COVID vaccination on Wednesday, but it was postponed because of his condition.

Meanwhile, 42 more persons were added to the list of positive cases in Capiz.

Based on the data released by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) Tuesday evening, the new cases include 15 in Roxas City; 10 in President Roxas; 4 from Panitan; 3 each in Pontevedra, Sigma and Pilar; and 1 each in Ivisan, Maayon, Cuartero and Dumarao.

The province also logged 6 recoveries and 1 death.

Also reported are the 6 recoveries and one death.

At present, Capiz has 1,439 confirmed cases where 6.39%, or 92 are active cases; 88.95% or 1, 280 recoveries; and 4.65% or 67 deaths.
