COVID-19 cases in Iloilo province climb to over 1,100 since January 

In a span of two months, Covid-19 cases in Iloilo province breached the 1,000 mark due to the surge of cases recorded in municipalities mostly involving local transmission.

From January 1, 2021 to February 18, 2021, Iloilo province recorded 1,134 cases based on the data from the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (PHO).

Passi City, which was recently placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), had the highest number of COVID-19 cases for the past two months with 409 cases, as of Feb. 17.

The town of Miagao, which recorded local transmission in its municipal offices, landed on the second spot in the number of Covid-19 cases with 85 cases followed by the town of San Joaquin which also recorded local cases recently with 63 cases.

Pototan had 63 cases and Oton with 48 cases.

For the month of January, the PHO recorded 645 cases while at present, cases logged in February is at 489.

Last year, the highest number of Covid-19 cases was recorded in the month of October with 804 cases followed by August with 568 and November with 525 cases.

In summary, the total confirmed cases in Iloilo province is 4,214 with 3,647 recoveries and 457 active cases. The case fatality rate is at 2.73% with 115 deaths.

On Thursday, Feb. 18, Iloilo province recorded 65 new cases including two new deaths.

The two new deaths are elderlies from the towns of Oton and Sta. Barbara, according to the PHO.

Meanwhile, 32 of the new cases are from the town of Banate. The Iloilo PHO is currently monitoring the town of Banate due to the sudden surge of cases involving vendors in the public market. (ERS)
