BACOLOD City – The number of active coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases among police officers here and in Negros Occidental dropped this month.
According to Police Lieutenant Liberty Indiape, assistant information officer of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), only seven active cases were recorded by the city police force as of May 28, 2021.
These seven policemen are still in quarantine, she added.
Indiape said that the BCPO has recorded 105 COVID cases since April.
But based on their surveillance testing, only 96 cops tested positive for the virus, while others were close contacts of the infected personnel.
Indiape said police officers who recovered from the virus have already returned to their respective posts, with most of them assigned to various police stations.
Meanwhile, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here also reported a reduction in COVID cases, with only 27 active cases as of May 27.
These cases were included in 133 total COVID infections in the provincial police force.
Police Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, Nocppo’s deputy information officer, said Nocppo personnel were advised to adhere to health and safety protocols.
“This is to prevent more COVID infection among the cops as they serve as frontliners in this pandemic,” she added.
