Patients who survived the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Western Visayas are nearing the 100 mark with six new recoveries in the region recorded on Wednesday.

The Department of Health-Center for Health Development Western Visayas (DOH-CHD 6) logged the six new Covid-19 recoveries in its Case Bulletin No. 76.

The survivors include a 27-year-old female from Bacolod City (WV Patient No. 86), a 27-year-old male from Bago City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 99), a 28-year-old male from Bacolod City (WV Patient No.101), a 41-year-old male from Bacolod City (WV Patient No.108), a 36-year-old male from Bacolod City (WV Patient No.116) and a 43-year-old male from Bacolod City (WV Patient No.118).

The health department said the six new recoveries are all repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, medical coordinator for emerging and reemerging infectious diseases of DOH-CHD 6, said Western Visayas now has 94 COVID survivors.

“We have recorded six new recoveries for today bringing the total recoveries in the region to 94 out of the 130 confirmed cases,” Te said in an online briefing Wednesday.

The number of recoveries is equivalent to 72 percent of the total cases.

Meanwhile, 14 cases (18 percent) are still quarantined, while seven cases (5 percent) remain admitted and 11 (9 percent) expired.

Of the total recoveries, 31 are repatriates; 16 are from Iloilo City; 15 from Iloilo province; 14 from Antique; six each from Bacolod City and Aklan; four from Capiz; and two from Negros Occidental.

NEW CASES

Meanwhile, the region logged three new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases on Wednesday, bringing the total cases to 130.

DOH-CHD 6 reported that the new cases are in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, and Iloilo City.

According to Dr. Te, the indigenous case in Bacolod City is a 32-year-old male.

The patient works as a driver and manifested cough colds since May 30 up to June 5, 2020.

“He is symptomatic. Because he has to go back to his work as a driver, he was convinced by his employer to have a swab test where it came out positive for Covid-19,” Te said during an online press briefing on Wednesday.

The patient is under facility quarantine and contact tracing is ongoing.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old male from La Castellana, Negros Occidental is WV Patient No. 129. He is a locally stranded individual who returned to the province.

Te said that the patient, who is asymptomatic, is under facility quarantine.

Iloilo City also recorded a new case Wednesday, a 61-year-old male repatriated Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) from Arevalo district.

He worked as a seafarer and travelled worldwide before arriving in Manila last March 21, according to the health department.

The patient stayed in Manila during the lockdown and returned to Iloilo City on May 31 via Cebu. He is currently asymptomatic and under facility quarantine.

As of Wednesday, the region has 130 cases with 25 active cases and 11 deaths.

Fifty of those cases are repatriates who arrived in the region.
