The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVI-19) in Western Visayas has reached 1,547 after the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-WV CHD) reported 129 new cases on Aug 3, 2020.
Another death was also recorded Monday, a 38-year-old male Locally-Stranded Individual (LSI) from Bago City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 328), bringing the total COVID-19 fatalities in the region to 21.
The LSI died on Aug 2 due to cardiogenic shock secondary to myocardial infarction. He was also diagnosed with end-stage renal disease secondary to chronic glomerulonephritis, and anemia secondary to achronic disease, according to DOH-WV CHD spokesperson Dr. Renilyn Reyes.
The DOH data indicated that as of Aug 3, Western Visayas has had 1,547 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 788 active cases, 738 recoveries, and 21 deaths.
The latest batch of cases includes 96 Returned Overseas Filipinos (ROF), or 74 percent of the total of new cases:

All new cases are currently under facility-based quarantine, except for the four local cases in Mandurriao, Iloilo City (WV Patient Nos. 1538, 1539, 1540, 1541).
Reyes said that seventy-three percent of the cases, or 577 cases, are either ROF, LSI, or Authorized Person Outside of Residence (APOR), while the remaining 211 are local cases.
Six frontliners are included in this latest batch of cases, with five nurses and one non-medical frontliner, all of whom are either ROF or LSI.
Thirty-two new recoveries and one COVID-19 death were also reported.
A total of 1220 tests via real-time Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test were released on August 3, with 1091 yielding negative results.
