Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Western Visayas jumped to 427 with 15 new additional cases reported on Thursday, according to the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD 6).
In its Case Bulletin No. 105, DOH-CHD 6 regional epidemiologist Dr. Jessie Glen Alonsabe said the new cases included locally stranded individuals (LSIs) from high-risk areas of Manila and Cebu.
“We have recorded 15 new cases. All of them are LSIs where 12 came from Cebu and three from Manila,” Alonsabe reported in a virtual press briefing on Thursday.
The new cases include 14 from Negros Occidental:
-a 31-year-old male from Bago City;
-a 33-year-old male from Bago City;
-a 36-year old female from Hinoba-an;
-a 35-year old male from Escalante City;
-a 20-year-old male from Escalante City;
-a 25-year-old male from Binabalgan;
-a 21-year-old from Binalbagan;
-a 21-year-old from Himamayalan;
-a 25-year-old male from Himamaylan;
-a 24-year-old male from Victorias City;
-a 32-year-old male from Himamaylan;
-a 24-year-old from Himamaylan; and
-a21-year-old from Toboso.
A 22-year-old female LSI from Lapuz, Iloilo City also tested positive for COVID-19.
COVID-19 cases in Region 6 jumped to 427 with 257 active cases, 159 recoveries, and 11 deaths.
The 257 active cases include 32 who are still admitted in health facilities, 15 under home quarantine, and 210 in facility quarantined.
In the first week of June, the recovery rate in Region 6 went as high as 70 percent. But as of July 8, it dropped to 37 with 159 recoveries.
In previous interviews, DOH-CHD 6 described the COVID-19 community transmission in the region as low-grade. (ERS)
