BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here has reported 12 more personnel, including two police chiefs, who were infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Major Edison Garcia, Nocppo’s public information officer, said the 12 active cases were among the 26 COVID cases recorded in the provincial police force as of Oct 12, 2020.

Fourteen officers have already recovered from the infection.

Garcia told Daily Guardian that the two police chiefs (names withheld) tested positive for the virus based on their swab test results released last week.

Garcia said one of them was assigned to a city police station while the other was assigned to a municipal police station.

Garcia said the two police stations were not placed on lockdown as the personnel were already advised to be on quarantine while contact tracing is ongoing.

Augmentation personnel were dispatched to the stations to reinforce the existing forces that tested negative in the swab tests, he added.

They are still waiting for the results of the other station personnel with close contacts to their police chiefs, Garcia said.

The 10 other infected cops came from different assigned areas or units in the province, he said.
