Central Philippine University’s current basketball head coach and the founder of SWEAT basketball program, Mathew Jan Montalvo, showed why there’s more to Ilonggo ballers than just basketball.
Through the SWEAT basketball family, Montalvo was able to donate relief packs to more than 40 security guards in Iloilo City, one of the most overlooked frontliners amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
SWEAT, which stands for Self Work Ethics Ability Training, is coach Montalvo’s pet project which provides viewers basketball drills every week.
With the public under community quarantine, coach Montalvo recognized that this is an ideal time to improve one’s basketball skills while maintaining social distancing by posting drills online.
“Para sa mga athletes muni gid ang nami nga time para sa inyo disipilina kag determination sa inyo lawas. Kung pisan ka nga maging active kag condition pa ang lawas mo muni gid nami ipa condition sa sulod sang inyo panimalay kag safe ikaw katama. Like cardio, build up sang muscles kg individual skills nga pwede mo idevelop kag matun-an ang mga weaknesses mo. Keep reaching sa mga goal nyo. Keep safe gid. God bless you all Ilonggo athletes,” coach Montalvo said in an exclusive interview with Daily Guardian.
