BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental provincial administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz said Tuesday that the Department of Agriculture (DA) has no funds for hog raisers whose livestock are affected by hog cholera and African Swine Fever (ASF).
Diaz said the DA is relying on local government units (LGU) and the provincial government to aid the affected hog raisers.
“Much as we would like to indemnify them per head of the affected hogs, our fund is limited,” Diaz told reporters here.
He said the provincial government allocated P4 million in financial assistance but these will be distributed to households.
Diaz said the provincial government does not want to utilize the calamity fund yet in preparation for unexpected calamities that may happen.
“Kon usaron ang calamity fund basi kon ano pa ang calamity ma-abot wala na ta pondo,” Diaz said.
As to the ASF, Diaz said “ang aton efforts sa pagbulig sa farmers diri has been one of the success stories because we are among the last nga nasudlan sang ASF.”
He said the recent ASF infection was due to the hard-headedness of some people.
“Dala na sang aton pagkatig-a ulo, man madala gid siopao tocino kag chorizo kon sa diin nga halin nga lugar kag dal-on gid di,” he lamented.
