The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office together with the Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) in partnership with the West Visayas State University (WVSU), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and College of Information, Communication Technology (CICT) conducted a 4-day training on data analysis, statistical presentation, and report packaging which fruitfully completed the 3-year Capacity Development (CapDev) project for the PSC member agencies and LGUs for the Guimaras province.
The 4-day training, which aims to enrich the knowledge and skills of participants on technical writing to know the key elements in having an effective presentation of statistical data with analysis and report packaging of the ecological profile, was done on November 21-24, 2023, at Olivia’s Kitchen Function Hall, San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.
The training was participated in by fifty-five (55) participants from various LGUs, NGAs, Provincial Offices in Guimaras, and PSC member agencies with seventeen (17) panels from WVSU.
The first day of training focused on Technical Report Writing, on the second day, the resource persons tackled Effective Presentation of Statistical Data (Tools and Technology, Presentation Skills and Techniques), while the workshop and presentation of outputs were done on the 3rd and 4th day, respectively.
One of the highlights of the training was the giving out of awards in various categories: Best Technical and Narrative Report, Best PowerPoint Presentation, and Best Technical Report Presenter.
Guimaras Environment and Natural Resources (GENRO), Provincial Health Office (PHO), and Provincial Human Resource Management and Development Office (PHRMDO) got the Most Promising Report award. Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), LGU of Nueva Valencia, LGU of Sibunag, and Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) took the Promising Report award, under the Best Technical and Narrative Report category.
The Provincial Economic and Development Office (PEDO), PHO, and PPDO bagged the Most Promising PowerPoint Presentations. However, BFAR, LGU of Sibunag, and PHRMDO received the Promising PowerPoint Presentation Award.
Participants from PEDO and PRHMDO were chosen as the Most Promising Technical Report Presenters, while the LGU of Nueva Valencia, Provincial Office of the Governor and Development Administration, and PPDO participants were the Promising Technical Report Presenters of the year’s CapDev training.
“This year’s training is the third in the series: the first training conducted on October 5-7, 2021, was entitled “Infographics: IDeA of Data Visualization” (IDeA=Insights, Design and the Art), and the second training on Data Management and Data-driven Decisions Making on October 4-7, 2022, focused on data banking and data analytics,” Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.
Losare expounded that all the CapDev trainings were made possible through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by WVSU President Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz and the Hon. Governor Samuel T. Gumarin on October 1, 2021, which took effect until December 31, 2023.
The crafting of the joint project between the WVSU-CAS, CICT, and the Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) of Guimaras started in 2019 through the coordination/collaborative efforts of the PSC Co-chairperson Losare of PSA Guimaras, targeted to be implemented in 2020. However, because of the threat brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, the activity has moved to 2021.
“One of the major functions of the PSC is to capacitate its member statistical workforce, and the Committee officials find means, through a CapDev training in partnership with the WVSU through their extension program realizing a 3-year MOA and implementing series of CapDev”, Losare said.
