The De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers further deepened its already talented playing roster in the UAAP after securing the commitment of Gilas Youth member Alex Konov.

On June 4, 2024, Konov announced the major UAAP update after posting a lengthy message on his official Instagram account.

“I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to De La Salle University Manila in the Philippines,” Konov posted.

The Filipino-Bulgarian is one of the most highly-touted high school prospects in this year’s UAAP off-season craze.

Standing at six-foot-seven, Konov is expected to bring his international experience to the Green Archers’ basketball program headed by chief tactician Topex Robinson.

Konov was known as one of the key pieces in the previous Gilas Youth player pool and averaged 10.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game during his stint at the FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship two years ago.

After his eligible playing years under the Gilas Youth program, Konov returned to New Jersey and played for the Manasquan High School.

Konov also capped off his high school basketball season in New Jersey with impressive numbers after averaging 11.13 points and 2.2 rebounds per contest.

The versatile swingman will be teaming up with reigning UAAP Most Valuable Player (MVP) Kevin Quiambao and will have five years of eligibility in the collegiate league.

“I also want to thank my parents for everything they have sacrificed over the years. Big thanks to coach Topex and his staff for the opportunity, can’t wait to get to work,” Konov added.
