Two local chief executives in Western Visayas were among the top performing public officials in the entire country, based on a national survey conducted by the RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMDinc).

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas and Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. have been cited as among the top 10 performing city mayors and performing governors in the country.

Defensor ranked as 2nd top performing governor with a “high job performance” rating of 72 percent.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia topped the list with a rating of 77 percent while the other governors who made it to the list include La Union Gov. Francisco Emmanuel Ortega III (70%); Davao del Sur Gov. Marc Douglas Cagas IV (67%); Pampanga Gov. Dennis Pineda (62%); Oriental Mindoro Gov. Humerlito Dolor (58%); Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Emano (57%); Albay Gov. Al Francis C. Bichara (55%); Laguna Gov. Ramil Hernandez (54%); and Benguet Gov. Melchor D. Diclas (51%).

Meanwhile, Treñas placed sixth in top performing city mayors in the country outside National Capital Region with a job approval rating of 68%.

Presidential Daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio garnered the top spot in the top performing city mayors with a rating of 93%.

In his official social media page, Treñas thanked the Ilonggos for their continued trust and vowed to give back through his public office.

“This recognition is the success not only of my leadership but of everyone who strives to help the community. This is all for Iloilo City. I sincerely thank every Ilonggo for their continuous support for my vision for the city,” he said.

On the other hand, Defensor attributed the recognition to the collaboration of stakeholders in the province but noted that there is still so much to do.

The two officials were the only LCEs from Western Visayas who made it to the list.

The survey which was conducted by RPMDinc aims to get the constituents’ opinion and assessment on their leaders’ performance on relevant issues.

Moreover, the survey was “independent and non-commissioned” as RPMDinc wants to be a valued public resource used by hundreds to millions of people on a daily basis, enabling intelligent decision-making and informed conversations.

Around 5,000 respondents were surveyed across regions for the category of governors and non-NCR city mayors from June 10 to 25. (ERS)
