ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Cases of dengue in the province of Capiz surged to 69 after 22 new cases were added to the list of the Capiz Provincial Health Office (PHO) on Wednesday, January 24.
The number, according to PHO, is about 102.94% higher compared to 34 cases in the same period last year.
Based on PHO data, Roxas City has the most number of dengue cases with 9, followed by Jamindan (4), Ivisan (3), President Roxas (2), while Dumalag, Mambusao, Sapian and Tapaz recorded one case each.
Meanwhile, 6 barangays are under monitoring for clustering of cases – Basiao and Santa Cruz in Ivisan; barangay Bolo, Dinginan, Tanque, and Tiza in Roxas City.
Punong barangay Dax Noel Alovera Sr. of Brgy. Tiza said that before the dengue awareness program launched by the City Health Office(CHO), the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) conducted a synchronized clean-up drive in the 47 barangays of Roxas City.
He said that by next week, the CHO and DILG will call for a meeting to again hold a synchronized clean-up drive together with the 47 villages.
Alovera believes that residents of Brgy. Tiza are not the only carriers of the dengue virus but also residents from other barangays.
He reminded the public to always clean their surroundings to prevent another surge of cases.
