Iloilo residents are urged to maintain mosquito prevention efforts as dengue cases in the province have reached 10,530 as of Oct. 19, with 29 fatalities reported, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
The PHO stated that Passi City recorded the highest number of cases with 657 infections and two deaths, followed by Oton with 626 cases, Calinog with 459 cases and one death, Leon with 452 cases, and Lambunao with 437 cases and one fatality.
PHO Head Dr. Maria Socorro Quiñon stressed the importance of vigilance, noting that immediate action to eliminate mosquito breeding sites is essential to curb the outbreak.
“We must not neglect our search-and-destroy efforts for mosquito breeding sites, as we are still in a state of calamity,” Quiñon said in an interview on Oct. 28.
She advised residents to keep their surroundings clean, eliminate standing water, and use mosquito repellents and other protective measures to prevent bites.
Despite the high case numbers, a recent report showed a decline in several areas.
Over the past two weeks, cases fell by 57.17% compared to the previous two-week period, decreasing from 516 to 221 cases.
Quiñon reiterated the need for sustained efforts and reminded residents to follow the Department of Health’s “4S” strategy: Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, Self-protect by using insect repellent and wearing long clothing, Seek early consultation if symptoms appear, and Support fogging or spraying in high-risk areas.
