The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 6 has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Young Adult Worker Volunteer Group of ASEZ WAO to enhance environmental protection and community development. The signing took place on January 21, 2025, at the Office of the Regional Executive Director.
The MOU outlines collaborative activities supporting various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These include educational support, well-being promotion, emergency relief, cultural exchanges, climate change response, reducing plastic use, and protecting terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
DENR Region 6 OIC Regional Executive Director Raul L. Lorilla emphasized the partnership’s significance, stating, “This partnership, established through an MOU, is a vital step in promoting environmental stewardship and empowering communities to take an active role in protecting their natural resources.”
ASEZ WAO, which stands for “Save the Earth from A to Z We Are One Family,” is an international volunteer group comprising young adult workers.
The organization has been active in the Philippines for nearly a decade, engaging in initiatives such as the “Mother’s Forest” project, which involves tree planting to combat climate change and promote biodiversity.
In August 2024, ASEZ WAO members planted 200 seedlings at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park, contributing to marine ecosystem preservation.
The MOU between DENR 6 and ASEZ WAO is valid for one year and will automatically extend if both parties agree to continue their collaboration. This partnership aims to leverage the strengths and resources of both organizations to implement programs that protect the environment and uplift local communities.
By uniting efforts, DENR 6 and ASEZ WAO seek to create innovative solutions and engage more stakeholders in meaningful environmental initiatives, ensuring a healthier and more sustainable future. (DENR-6)
