The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 6 conducted a training on Emergency Response and Disaster Preparedness to equip employees with skills on how to respond in times of emergency and disaster.
The 3-day lecture and training gave both male and female employees the equal opportunity to learn and be prepared in disasters.
Dubbed “Learning Event on Gender-Inclusive Emergency Response and Disaster Preparedness: How to Save a Life Including Yours,” the training was held March 27 to 29, 2023 through DENR 6’s Gender and Development (GAD) Program initiated by Dr. Ernest C. Federiso, Chief Administrative Division and Vice Chair of the Regional GAD Committee.
Participants from the regional and field offices of the region who joined the training were required to submit their medical certificates ahead of the activity to determine that they are physically fit to do the job.
“Our Red Cross are here today to help you prepare for disaster preparedness both by man-made and natural calamities. There are a lot of disasters happening around us and we have to be always ready,” according to Regional Executive Director Livino B. Duran.
“In this very moment I want to thank you all for your cooperation and willingness to join because this job is purely by spirit of volunteerism,” he added.
The DENR 6 tapped experienced resource persons from the Philippine National Red Cross and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) who lively discussed topics from common emergency responses to emergency techniques. A knowledge test scenario exercise was also done to determine the level of knowledge the participants gained during the event. (DENR-6)
