The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 6 has assumed the chairmanship of the Jalaur River Basin Management Council.

DENR-6 officially took over after receiving the Key of Responsibility during the council meeting held at the Calinog Municipal Conference Room on October 30.

The leadership transition was from outgoing chairman, Calinog Mayor Francisco Calvo, to Raul Lorilla, DENR-6 regional executive director.

Representatives from various government agencies, local government units (LGUs), the Community ENR Office Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo Provincial Government ENRO, and DENR-6 attended the meeting.

With this change, DENR-6 will now oversee the management of the basin’s resources and facilitate collaboration among stakeholders and watershed users.

Calvo expressed his gratitude for the cooperative efforts during his term.

Lorilla reaffirmed DENR-6’s commitment to fostering partnerships and implementing sustainable practices that benefit the community while preserving natural resources.

During the meeting, participants also discussed ongoing projects and future initiatives to enhance the Jalaur River Basin’s health, ensuring it remains a sustainable source of water and biodiversity for future generations.
