DENR Region 6 to hold Water Code awareness drive in Aklan

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 6 will conduct an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign to raise awareness about the Water Code of the Philippines (Presidential Decree 1067) and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR).

The campaign aims to inform key stakeholders, including water users and business owners, about water permit requirements and responsible water resource management.

The IEC event, titled “IEC Campaign on PD 1067: Water Code of the Philippines for Key Stakeholders and Water Business Owners,” will take place on September 11, 2024, in collaboration with the Lezo Municipal Local Government Unit (LGU) in Aklan.

It is organized by the Water Resource Utilization Section (WRUS) under the Licenses, Patents, and Deeds Division (LPDD) of DENR 6, led by Atty. Elizur G. Militar.

The initiative focuses on educating water permit holders and applicants on the necessary documentation and guidelines for securing water permits, while also emphasizing the conservation and protection of water resources.

DENR Region 6 has seen moderate success in past IEC campaigns on water resource management, with stakeholders gradually becoming more familiar with the Water Code’s provisions.

The upcoming event seeks to build on these efforts by strengthening the partnership between local government units, other government agencies, and private sector stakeholders.

“This activity will somewhat educate the communities within Lezo, Aklan and the public in general to the proper monitoring, conservation, and utilization of water resources,” said DENR 6 Officer-in-Charge Regional Executive Director Raul L. Lorilla.

The event aligns with DENR’s broader mission to promote the sustainable use and development of the country’s water resources, while ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks.  (DENR-6)
