The Bronze Bomber is back!
After taking a break from professional boxing since losing to nemesis Tyson Fury last year, Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” officially made his return in style after knocking Robert Helenius out cold in just the first round of their heavyweight eliminator clash.
“It just feels so good to be back. I just had a great energy, I felt the love and support. I felt it in the arena and I knew it was gonna be a great night, and it was for me,” Wilder said after the fight.
It was a classic Wilder show after sealing the deal with his signature right hand that landed straight to Helenius’ jaw with only 20 seconds left in the first round.
Helenius was always bullying Wilder in the ropes and was more aggressive unloading those jabs but once Wilder found the perfect position to counter Helenius’ left straight, the former heavyweight champion uncorked his right that put the whole crowd to their feet in amazement.
Despite throwing limited punches in the fight, Wilder’s power was still there and is still one of the most hard-hitting knockout artists in the sport.
“It’s been a good camp, we wanted to make this fun again. It became a job, just something I was doing, we had to make it fun again. It paid off tonight, big time, and I just appreciate everyone coming out with the love and support,” added Wilder.
Wilder’s plans after the Helenius victory are still unsure but he said that he’s willing to take the available fight right away for the title eliminator.
If given the chance to go up against Oleksandr Usyk or Andy Ruiz, Wilder said this is the most perfect time to build up another winning streak and gain those belts again.
“Deontay Wilder is back, the excitement in the heavyweight division is back! There’s no excitement in the heavyweight division without Deontay Wilder!” yelled Wilder.
