Detainee dies in hospital, tests negative for COVID

BACOLOD City – A detainee of Escalante City Police Station in Negros Occidental died at Vicente Gustilo District Hospital last Friday after he suffered from acute respiratory failure.

Based on a report from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo), Rajie Yap, 20, of Barangay Washington was released from detention for medical check-up last Thursday after complaining of stomach pain.

He then returned to the custodial facility that night. But, the following day, he was again brought to the hospital because of continuous stomach pain.

He was advised to be confined at the hospital and was even subjected to a swab test.

It was past 12 noon on May 7, when the police station received a call from the hospital informing them that Yap already passed away.

His swab test result showed that he tested negative for COVID-19.

Yap was arrested last February 23, 2021 for frustrated homicide.
