BACOLOD City – Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año on August 30, 2019 again issued a stern warning against abusive and erring cops amid reports of a drunken cop who shot three persons in Negros last week and a jail officer in Iloilo who refused to pay for his drinks .
“Hindi pwede yan, pasagutin natin sila, I will look into it at dapat managot ang dapat managot,” Año said.
He added that public service is a reward in itself.
“Makapaglingkod ka sa kapwa mo tapos tinaasan na ni Presidente ang sweldo, hindi ka na pwede gumawa ng kalokohan. Maraming gustong pumasok sa public service, ibigay natin to sa nararapat, kung may scalawag dyan, tanggalin natin.”
The DILG has supervision over the PNP and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
Año was here for the launching of the Bacolod Justice Zone held at the Bacolod City Government Center.
Also in the launching were Supreme Court Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin and Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra.
In his message, Año urged local governments to increase awareness of the JSCC (Justice System Coordinating Council) and the justice zone program.
He also asked them to work with the national government and civil society organizations so that other localities may likewise strive towards becoming justice zones by either following the best practices of already established justice zones or innovate their own ways to make their LGUs’ judicial processes more efficient.
“If we are able to deliver justice even to the smallest offense, then we will be able to reach the apex of peace in the country.”
