BACOLOD CITY – A 38-year-old dispatcher was shot dead by an unidentified assailant early Friday in Purok Tahong, Barangay 3, this city.
The victim, identified only as “Jane” and temporarily residing in Barangay 5, was buying cigarettes at a sari-sari store when the gunman approached and fired.
Police Major Eugene Tolentino, head of Police Station 2, said the victim sustained two gunshot wounds to the head and chest.
Recovered from the crime scene were two empty cartridges from an unidentified firearm.
Tolentino added that the suspect, who fled on foot, may have been monitoring the victim before the attack.
According to the victim’s live-in partner, “Jane” was allegedly using illegal drugs.
Tolentino said investigators are pursuing all possible leads but are initially looking into the incident as drug-related.
LABORER STABBED DEAD
In La Castellana, Negros Occidental, a 39-year-old laborer was stabbed to death by a teenager during a drinking session in Barangay Camandag on Thursday.
Investigations revealed that the victim, the 19-year-old suspect, and their friends were drinking when the victim started dancing.
The suspect unexpectedly attacked the victim with a double-bladed weapon, inflicting injuries to the right arm and lower abdomen.
The victim was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police Major Rhojn Darell Nigos, head of La Castellana Police, said they are investigating possible motives, including a misunderstanding or grudges.
The teenage suspect remains at large.
