BACOLOD City – The husband of the doctor who was categorized as a Person Under Investigation (PUI) said his wife tested negative for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

PUI is a person with signs and symptoms and have travel history to infected areas.

In a message sent through FB messenger Tuesday night, Dr.  Lawrence Britanico said he is the husband of Dr. Carlyn Mae Britanico, whom he said was “the subject of malicious and fabricated information currently circulating in social media, local and national newspapers as well as on radio and TV.”

His wife is a consultant at the Alfredo Marañon Sr. Memorial District Hospital who was accused of breaching COVID-19 protocol after she allegedly reported to the hospital despite being a PUI.

He said that the “rumors are bare and blatant lies and have caused immense anxiety to my wife and my family.”

He said they received the result of the swab test conducted by the DOH confirming that Dr. Caryn Mae F. Britanico was negative for the virus.

He also said that his wife did not have any recent trip in Hong Kong as rumored and was never tagged as PUI until about 3:40 p.m. of Mar. 30, 2020.

He also said that his wife was not sick and did not exhibit nor sought medical attention for any COVID-related symptoms.

“My wife was never in hiding.  In behalf of my wife I maintained constant communication with the hospital heads and some government agencies to immediately address anything necessary.”

He said he is also thankful to Mayor Alfredo Marañon III for his prompt and appropriate action to the disturbance that was caused by the false information sent to him.

“My wife remains optimistic and looking forward to again serve the public, with other frontliners, in the fight against this pandemic. We are very thankful for the family, friends & my wife’s PRIVATE PATIENTS who sent their messages of support & thoughtful prayers,” he added.
