The Department of Energy (DOE), in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), unveiled three technology innovations to step up its programs on the efficient and sustainable use of energy on June 21, in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.
DOE, with support from USAID Energy Secure Philippines (ESP) Activity, ventured into utilizing new and emerging technology innovations to continuously raise awareness of the environmental and economic benefits of energy-efficient practices and technologies and facilitate the real-time monitoring of the implementation of the R.A. 11285 or the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA) and R.A. 11607 or the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA).
Three digital platforms were demonstrated and presented during the ceremonial launch namely, the City of Energia and its websites, Enerhiyang Atin (Our Energy) and Wattmatters websites; the Designated Establishment (DE) Online Submission Portal, and the Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS) Portal.
“Here, we are pumping up our demand and knowledge sharing for our customers as we launch and now utilize information and communications technology. Today marks a milestone in the implementation of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Law. With the EEC law, we have to have a roadmap and included in the roadmap is the provision of best practices and support awareness raising,” DOE Usec. Felix William B. Fuentebella said.
The country’s first energy efficiency virtual showroom: the City of Energia mobile application and its website versions Enerhiyang Atin and Wattmatters, aim to reach government agencies, the academe, students and the youth, as well as media practitioners and educate them about the practical energy efficiency measures and systems applicable to each sector.
The DOE online portal meanwhile facilitates the submission of compliance requirements of businesses under the commercial, industrial and the transportation sector. Likewise, the EVCS portal supports the identification, regulation, and consolidation of all EVCS operators and applicants to help ensure a safe, efficient and standardized EV sector.
In line with USAID’s Digital Strategy, each platform uses technology innovations that contribute to building a more energy-efficient and secured energy sector that better serves Filipinos.
“These are exciting times for the energy sector and we are looking forward to significant benefits and progress as these innovations seek to advance, cutting down bureaucratic footpaths, and promoting the ease of doing business,” USAID Philippines Environment Office Director Ryder Rogers said.
