DOLE organizes first Boracay human resource network

Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr. (inset) delivers a very informative and useful discussion on matters relevant to the performance of HR jobs.

Department Of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office 6 under the able leadership of Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr. made another historic achievement by organizing Boracay’s first human resource network (HR Net) of different industries that will look into the welfare of the workers as it implements the policies of their respective companies.

Rodriguez pushed for the organization of HR Net considering that Boracay is home to thousands of workers in the tourism industry and their rights and welfare should be upheld by providing the human resource of the different industries with knowledge on the basic labor standards necessary in carrying out their company policies.

DOLE-6 Aklan Field Office facilitated the oath taking of officers and induction of members which was highlighted with the discussion of RD Rodriguez on important labor provisions related to human resource management.

“Our main purpose here is to improve the lives of the majority and lessen or eradicate poverty in our respective places,” Rodriguez said as he pointed out that poverty is the root of social injustice and providing and maintaining jobs and employment could alleviate the living condition of the impoverished sector.

An advocate of social justice, RD Rodriguez encouraged the HR officers to humanize laws and help equalize the social and economic forces of the state.

“The role of the HR is to humanize the law and equalize situation. Maawa ka sa mga manggagawa na mawalan ng trabaho,” he emphatically said.

The Regional Director also challenged the HR Net on how to deal with the workers’ rights and the management rights.

“Just exercise it in good faith,” he added.

Boracay HR Net President Edgardo P. Bruan, Jr. thanked DOLE and the PESO for the establishment of the organization.

Bruan said that by establishing the network, the HR practitioners in the island could gather and discuss their concerns. He added that the association aims to establish a strong network across the island.
