DOLE Region 6 Launches Men Opposing Violence Program

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6 has launched the Men Opposing Violence Everywhere (MOVE) program as part of its Gender and Development (GAD) initiative, with the aim of involving men in the fight against violence, especially in workplaces.

On Sept. 11, 2024, DOLE-6 held an orientation on MOVE and elected the first set of officers for the GAD-MOVE network among DOLE regional offices. Engr. Amador B. Tajanlangit III of the Aklan Field Office was elected president, while DOLE Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez Jr., Capiz Field Office Head Joselito Dela Banda, Aklan Field Office Officer-in-Charge Richie Buyco, and Guimaras Field Office Officer-in-Charge Engr. Michael L. Gison were chosen as advisers.

During the event, Rodriguez emphasized the importance of respect and peace in the workplace, encouraging male employees to lead efforts in opposing violence not only in the office but also in their daily lives.

“Men have a significant role to play in creating an environment of respect and peace,” Rodriguez said. “We must become the prime movers of opposing violence, whether at work or elsewhere.”

Representatives from the MOVE-Aklan Chapter, Mr. Amelito R. Parales and Mr. Jones R. Arrieta, provided insights on the MOVE program, also speaking on behalf of the Philippine Commission on Women. They highlighted the importance of the movement in reshaping attitudes toward gender-based violence and the critical role men play in fostering safer, more respectful environments.

The MOVE program underscores DOLE’s commitment to promoting gender equality and creating a safe and inclusive workplace for all employees. Through initiatives like MOVE, the agency aims to raise awareness and encourage active participation in preventing violence, harassment, and discrimination.
