Dondon “The Cebuano Hotshot” Hontiveros won’t be hitting the floor for his patented elbow three-pointer but will be on the sidelines designing the play.
Aiming to improve not only its roster but also the coaching staff, the Phoenix Super LPG Fuelmasters tapped the services of Hontiveros as their newest assistant to head coach Topex Robinson.
Hontiveros himself confirmed the development and is already gearing up to return to Manila for his new role in the big league.
“I will be joining them March 8 once I get all the necessary documents for my travel,” said Hontiveros who is currently in Cebu.
Aside from Hontiveros’ coaching stint, his PBA comeback will also mark a reunion with former coach Robinson when he was still one of the main gunners of the Alaska Aces together with Calvin Abueva, Sonny Thoss, and Jayvee Casio.
A deadly sharpshooter in his heyday, Hontiveros will try to help newly acquired Chris Banchero and his former Alaska teammate Vic Manuel cope up with the system and be a guiding voice for Phoenix.
