The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) launched ELEV8PH, an initiative highlighting eight priority research and development (R&D) programs aimed at advancing science, technology, and innovation in the Philippines.
The unveiling took place at Dusit Thani Manila, bringing together key stakeholders from industry, academia, foreign partners, and the DOST research community.
“We are showcasing eight transformative R&D areas of the DOST, designed to elevate S&T frontiers for national development,” said DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. during the ceremony. “Through these priority areas, DOST is able to address strategic areas of national interest to foster innovation and advancements.”
The eight R&D priority areas are:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) Virtual Hubs – Establishes AI hubs to position the Philippines as a leader in AI innovation. These hubs will support startups, foster collaborations, and advance AI-driven research.
- Quantum Computing Technologies – Enhances the country’s computing capacity for applications in cybersecurity, pharmaceuticals, material science, climate prediction, and financial services.
- Smart Technologies – Develops intelligent, connected systems integrating IoT, 5G, AI, and Big Data to improve efficiency and quality of life. Applications include smart communities, industries, and healthcare.
- Smart Agriculture – Leverages precision farming, digital agriculture, drones, sensors, and data analytics to address climate change, food security, and sustainable farming
- Geospatial Analysis Research Hub – Strengthens the use of remote sensing, GIS, and Big Data analytics for disaster risk reduction, urban planning, and environmental management.
- Industry 4.0 – Promotes the integration of automation, AI, IoT, and robotics to modernize industries and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
- Biologics in Pharma – Builds on DOST’s health programs in drug discovery, omic technologies, and infectious diseases to enhance biotechnology, develop new therapies, and improve public health.
