To start the implementation of the Innovations for Filipinos Working Distantly from the Philippines or the iFWD PH Program, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Western Visayas conducted a series of interview to the OFW applicants last April 14, 15, and 21 via teleconference.
iFWD Regional Coordinator of DOST VI Ms. May Rose O. Suerte spearheaded the online interview together with Ms. Kathleen Pearl M. Grande, Ms. Lea Rose L. Inocencio and the PSTC staff.
The iFWD PH Program was administered by DOST together with the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Overseas Filipino Workers and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for the purpose of helping OFWs in establishing their technology-based business and encourage them to settle in the country for good.
Each qualified OFW applicant will undergo the two (2) phases of the program. Under the Phase 1 or the Capacity Building, the qualified OFW applicants will go through core business development trainings to prepare them in managing a technology-based business and at the same time, help them in making their own business plans.
Also, included in this phase is the technology pitching or showcasing the technologies or products developed by DOST that might help their business in the future.
Meanwhile, qualified OFW applicants who completed and passed the Phase 1 will advance to Phase 2 where they will be provided with Innovation-Enabling Fund (iFund) for entrepreneurship and technical training, product development and market testing, operational consultancy services, initial laboratory testing, packaging and labeling design and execution for marketing testing, and equipment acquisition.
Moreover, the OFW applicants in the phase will also be provided with the access to appropriate technologies, technical consultancy, advisory and use of DOST facilities.
Starting May 4, 2021, qualified OFW applicants will finish the ten Core Business Modules and three assessment activities under the Capacity Building that will commence on June 17, 2021. (SSalazar/JJMoleño/DOST VI-KMU)
