The Department of Tourism Region VI (DOT-6) is urging all travelers visiting Western Visayas during the 2025 Holy Week to practice responsible and culture-sensitive tourism.
With a surge in visitors expected across the region’s heritage and pilgrimage sites, DOT-6 emphasized the importance of planning trips in advance to ensure safety and order.
The department advised tourists to book accommodations, tours and transportation early, especially in areas hosting Holy Week events.
“Make sure that they are DOT-accredited, particularly in the city or municipality where the religious activity is located,” the department stated.
To ease congestion at popular destinations, visitors are encouraged to travel during off-peak hours and observe crowd capacity limits.
DOT-6 also reminded the public to follow safety protocols such as wearing seatbelts, using life vests during water activities and complying with local guidelines.
Travelers should also monitor weather advisories and take extra care during outdoor or religious activities.
“Leave no trace by helping keep pilgrimage areas, beaches, mountains and heritage sites clean,” the department added.
“Dispose of waste properly and minimize the use of single-use plastics.”
Tourists are encouraged to support local artisans and vendors by buying locally made products, which helps sustain traditional crafts and community livelihoods.
DOT-6 advised keeping emergency contact details readily available, including local hotlines and health facility numbers.
Visitors should stay hydrated and take precautions while spending extended time outdoors.
