Residents living near the landslide-prone areas in the barangays of Igdarapdap and Concordia Norte in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, as well as motorists passing along the said section of Guimaras Circumferential Road would be protected from possible danger once the construction of slope protection is completed.

District Engineer Rhodora B. Nuñal of the Department of Public Works and Highwayss (DPWH), Guimaras District Engineering Office said the construction of the 433-lineal meter slope protection with 2,850-meter high tensile wire and erosion control mat that will help stabilize the soil condition in the amount of PHP50.1-million, is nearing completion.

The project also includes construction of 353-lineal meter canal, 6.30-meter culvert pipe, 3,468-meter anchor bolt drilling and grouting, and 360-meter pre-cast concrete curb and gutter.

“This project will help protect the lives, properties and livelihood of the residents of these two barangays from possible landslide and soil collapse especially during rainy days,” Nuñal said.

“This will also provide safer road for motorists and commuters going to schools, business establishments and recreational areas in the town,” she added.

Nuñal further said that the project is expected to be completed in June this year, hence when completed, would bring comfort to both residents and passers-by. (DPWH-6/RPAIO)
