DPWH enhances bridge infrastructure in Central Iloilo

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office is making significant strides in bridge construction to enhance the infrastructure of north central Iloilo towns, aiming to revitalize transportation and boost economic activity in the region.

According to Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel, these projects are crucial for the economic development of the province.

“Bridges are the lifelines of our local communities, providing vital links in the road networks of various barangays, ensuring safe and easy access to basic education, reducing travel times, and offering a comfortable and convenient route for the public,” said Director Oropel.

In Barangay Agtambo, Passi City, a significant project is underway with a budget of ₱47.5 million to transform the existing 50.9-lineal meter Agtambo Steel Bridge into a durable concrete structure. This comprehensive reconstruction also includes concrete slope protection and road slope protection, with safety enhancements like reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.

Additionally, a ₱57 million project in Barangay Poblacion Ilawod and Barangay Camabugan, Dingle, focuses on the rehabilitation and repair of the existing Dingle Bridge.

The project extends the bridge with an additional span, includes asphalt overlay, and integrates various protection works. It also features the installation of regulatory signs, thermoplastic pavement markings, painting, and electrical works to enhance safety and functionality.

Moreover, the ₱57.8 million project in Barangay Alimono, Passi City, is set to construct a 60 lineal meter bridge on a bored pile foundation, consisting of two 30-meter spans, facilitating smoother transportation.

These enhanced bridge infrastructures are expected to streamline the delivery of basic goods and services and significantly contribute to the socio-economic improvement of Iloilo, as outlined by the DPWH-6. (DPWH-6)
