The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is enhancing the Guimaras Circumferential Road, a key network in the province. Currently, the DPWH is widening a section in Barangay Salvacion, Nueva Valencia.

DPWH Region 6 Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel stated that this widening initiative aims to improve road capacity to accommodate more motorists and road users.

“Guimaras Circumferential Road is one of the busiest and most utilized routes on the island, making its widening to increase traffic capacity essential,” Oropel said.

“This improvement is part of our department’s ongoing efforts to enhance national roads for the increasing number of road users, including motorists, travelers, pedestrians, and tourists. It will also promote faster and more cost-efficient transport of goods and services within the island,” he added.

The DPWH Guimaras District Engineering Office is managing the PHP 50.39-million project, funded under the FY 2024 General Appropriations Act. The project covers widening an 800-meter segment from two to four lanes, with features such as curbs, gutters, a reinforced concrete box culvert (RCBC), a rectangular concrete-lined canal, and concrete slope protection.

District Engineer Randolfo A. Melosantos noted that the expanded road would support a higher volume of vehicles along this route.

“The widening in Barangay Salvacion, Nueva Valencia, will complement previously expanded sections of the Guimaras Circumferential Road, accommodating all types of users, from motorcycles to heavy cargo trucks,” Melosantos said.

In addition to road widening, safety features such as solar LED lights, warning signs, metal guard rails, and thermoplastic pavement markings are being installed to protect motorists, pedestrians, and the community.

The project has reached more than 50% completion and is expected to be finished by December.
