Local farmers and residents of various barangays of Lemery town in northern Iloilo can now easily transport their products from remote areas to the market and neighboring towns with the improved road system built by the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) Iloilo 3rd District Engineering Office.
Based on the report of District Engineer Ricardo R. Gutierrez, DPWH 6 Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said the construction of Cabantohan-Lemery Road in Lemery town is now completed, way ahead of the December 2022 target date.
“This concrete road will provide easier and more convenient access among our farmers in the delivery of their products to the market at a lesser travel time and hauling cost, making them earn more for their families,” Engr. Bueno said.
Other than facilitating faster delivery of products, Engr. Bueno said the paved road will provide local commuters and residents in the uplands of Lemery with an easier access to schools, health facilities, public and commercial establishments, and other basic government services.
“The concrete road will ensure that local communities specially those in remote areas will have an easier and safer travel especially season where they used to traverse the muddy, dangerous road which was prone to mudslide and landslide.”
The ₱90-million project funded under the District Fiscal Year 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA), involves the improvement of the 4.4-kilometer gravel road into 2-lane, 5-meter-wide paved road with stone masonry and grouted riprap to avoid possible occurrence of mudslide and landslide in the area.
“Upgrading this gravel road into concrete road will improve travel condition in the uplands of Lemery, providing easy access and safer travel even to the mountainous part of the town, which also connect to neighboring town of Sara,” Director Bueno stressed. (DPWH-6)
