Traveling to various tourist destinations in the cities of Sipalay and Kabankalan in Negros Occidental will soon be more convenient and accessible when various road improvement projects implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office are completed.
District Engineer Haydee S. Alunan said P130 million was allocated to the improvement of four road sections leading to most visited tourist areas in the province such as beach resorts, bays, falls and bird watching areas.
All road works are in full swing and nearing completion.
The improvement of access road leading to Sugar Beach Resort and Langub Beach Resort in Sipalay City, in the amount of P40 million, involves the concreting of a 315-lineal meter long, 6.1-meter wide, 2-lane Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP).
It also includes a 35-lineal meter Pre-Stressed Concrete Girder (PSCG) bridge including slope protection, regulatory signage and thermoplastic pavement markings.
The P25-million road improvement completed in October 2019 leads to Maricalum Port and Campomanes Bay, also in Sipalay City.
It involved the construction of a 2-lane concrete road with the length of 1.48-kilometers and 6.7 meters wide, including paved shoulders on both sides, lined canal and metal guard rails.
Another road improvement project undertaken by DPWH is the construction of concrete road leading to Mag-aso Falls in Brgy. Oringao, Kabankalan City.
The P30-million project involves the concrete paving of a 1.16-kilometer long, 6.1-meter wide concrete road with 1.5-meter concrete shoulder on both sides, including slope protection, metal guardrails and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.
Also, the P10 million, 560-lineal meter access road going to this tourist site is being undertaken to include slope protection, concrete shoulders, hazard markers and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.
DPWH is also undertaking improvement (from gravel to concrete) of the road leading to the Bird Watching Area at Brgy. Daan Banua, Kabankalan City. This P25-million project involves the concrete paving of a 700-lineal meter long, 9.10-meter wide, and 204-lineal meter long, 6.10-meter wide road to include slope protection and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.
Alunan said these road improvement projects implemented in convergence with the Department of Tourism would lead towards tourism and socio-economic development of the province.
“These upgraded roads will provide a lesser travel time and convenient trip, hence encouraging more tourists to visit various destinations in the cities of Sipalay and Kabankalan and other parts of the Negros Occidental province, as well as would eventually open vast opportunities among the local residents in showcasing their products and services,” Alunan said.
“The improved roads will also provide a permanent and convenient access among the people in the uplands for easier and faster delivery of their products to the market, hence would help improve their economic condition,” she added. (DPWH-6/RPAIO)
